Sustainable Tourism Rapid Assessment - Panama (2005)
Sponsored by The George Washington University and USAID, I was part of a project consulting team that focused on the conservation of the Panama Canal watershed by investigating strategies for stimulating sustainable economic growth through balanced use of natural and cultural resources.
The Sustainable Tourism Rapid Assessment focused primarily on a market analysis consisting of:
1. Market research and analysis of the tourism potential of Soberania National Park and surrounding areas;
2. Assessment and analysis of the visitor management system; and
3. A business plan and development strategy for an ecotourism cluster in specific areas surrounding the park.
The results formed the basis of the Second Phase, encompassing actual Field Work and Action Plans, which were contingent on future funding. The two phases were integrated into a 245-page report available for download.
